Part of 1930s Keighley, as seen from above what were then the brand-new roofs of Woodhouse.

The absence of smoke suggests that this photograph was taken during a Keighley Parish Feast holiday week -- virtually the only time the town could be viewed so clearly!

The prominent tower towards the middle of this panorama belonged to St Peter's Church in Halifax Road, to be demolished in 1956. Keighley Parish Church is on the far right.

The semi-rural upper reaches of West Lane wind noticeably up the hill towards the left.

More than a dozen mill-chimneys are visible, for the town still followed its basic Victorian pattern of factories among rows of houses.

Later suburban growth can, however, be glimpsed in the Guard House estate in process of development across the hillside in the left-hand background.
