Townville Tigers 6

Cougar Cubs Under-14s 12

The win over the unbeaten Castleford side was a great team effort with all players making valuable contributions. Townville had Great Britain scrum half, but he was outplayed by Keighley scrum half Joe Milner.

Two props Richard Barr and Danny Snowden led by example and Tom Hall put in a great tackling display. A great full back tackle by Tim Bibby, a yard form the line, was one of the highlights of the match. Ben Carly linked up well with Milner for a try and Joe Kennedy also scored.

Even though the final score looked close Keighley scored three tries to one from the home club. Peter Forest on his first game showed real promise.

Chris Thompson was the side's Man of Steel and Jordan Arthur the most improved player.

n Cubs Under-8s gifted Elland plenty of opportunities in the first half of their match and were punished, but their was a revival of fortunes in the second half with Adam Robinson running both attack and defence.

After a couple of quiet games Keiran Riley bounced back and together with Dominic Tucker and Thomas Goodings came close to claiming the man of the match award which went to Adam Robinson. Unfortunately the fightback was too late to dent a strong Elland armour.

n Keighley Town shocked table topping Siddal with a gritty performance both in defence and attack. Siddal's early try was answered with a well-taken drop goal from Gavin Duffy who also scored a try himself just before half time to make the score 12-5 to Siddal.

Siddal's surprise at the quality of rugby displayed by Town resulted in them adopting a very aggressive style which eventually led to an unsavoury incident when three players were sent off. Jason Scott also found his way to the try line taking three defenders with him.

Duffy added two more points to his personal tally with a penalty goal, another consequence of an indisciplined Siddal side.

Town defended well with Ben Woollard outstanding, but Siddall took the points with a 26-11 victory.

n Cougar Cubs Under-15s travelled to West Craven for another encounter between these two sides.

There is always good camaraderie between them and this match was no different. Tackles were whole-hearted and effort 100% even though most of the lads knew each other.

The Cubs secured a 56-0 vicotry with their first score coming from a handling error which Ben Atkinson picked up and ran through to get the first points on the board.

Five minutes later Cubs' James Boxwell, ran through his own forwards to power through from ten yards. By now the Cubs were in the Warriors' half most of the time, and the next try was the result from neat fast handling for Sam Walker to run over out wide.

Kristian Stell had only just come on when he ran through wide right to score two minutes later and, for the final try of the half, Lee Shaw made good yards from deep in the Cubs' half and off-loaded to Sam Walker who sprinted through tacklers to make the 80 yards to the try line.

With three conversions for Peter Gower the half-time score was 26-0.

After the break the Cubs continued on the same way, but the Warriors never stopped trying and always put in maximum effor.

Chris Wilkinson capped a great game with strong running and scored two tries, Reece Atkinson, with quick thinking, dodged through from the play-the-ball, Boxwell ran in for his second from a great Gower off-load, Paul Johns had taken the runs tirelessly all match and was determined to score.

Ben Atkinson grabbed his second close to the end of the match. With two conversions for Stell and one for Boxwell, bringing up the final score.

n Keighley Under-9s had a day to remember with two spectacular wins.

The first was at home to Littleborough when both teams showed great commitment throughout an entertaining game.

The best was yet to come after the team travelled to the Don Valley Stadium to play a curtain raiser game before the Eagles v Cougar match.

The youngster set the scene in front of their biggest crowd watched by the senior Cougar colleagues.

Macot for the day was William Doveston and all his team mates parated onto the pitch alongside the Cougars together with their counterparts from the Eagles.
