Skipton 2nd XV 5 Keighley 2nd XV 65 - The only thing that stopped Keighley on their visit to neighbours Skipton were the traffic lights at the many road works on the journey into Skipton.

The Keighley pack, ably led by the robust Morgan Bailey, and the lineout play of Midgley and Walsh set the foundation for the win.

Stuart Inman soon had Keighley on the scoreboard with an early try. He was followed by debutant Sam Cotterill a strong running wingman. Neither try was converted, but the goal kicking mantle was handed to Ben Woodwiss when captain Simon Atkin was despatched to the sin-bin.

Skipton scored a try through one of their backrow forwards but they never looked like scoring again.

Woodwiss had no problems adding the two extra points to a short range try scored by prop Russ Gibson who now is starting to show his old abilities of good loose play as well as strong scrummaging.

Next to get in on the act was the young South African Michael Moxley back in his normal position of hooker after playing on the wings for a few weeks. He scored in quick succession two tries. The first was from a deft inside pass by Adam Balderstone and Moxley scored with ease by the posts. Woodwiss converted the try.

Moxley's second try was a well taken one when he burst round the front of a lineout from thirty yards out, and destroyed the final would be tackler to go in at the corner.

Balderstone who had been orchestrating moves in the backs scored from a set scrum when with a good dummy he went over for his first try.

Rick Emmott rounded off the scoring in the first half when Skipton dropped the ball in the middle of the field and two quick passes gave Emmott one his longest runs of the game to score. Woodwiss failed with these last two conversions.

With game all but won Keighley relaxed for the first ten minutes of the second half and it took a telling run by Morgan Bailey from 40 yards out to open up the Skipton defence; on hand was Ben Woodwiss coming in from fullback at pace and he crossed for his try. His kick also added the two extra points.

Fresh legs were added with Gavin Whitaker replacing Cotterill and Andrew Schofield for Nige Fitzsimmons in the front row. Whitaker was soon in the play.

From a scrum near the Keighley line Skipton lost the ball and after six or seven players had all handled the ball Whitaker scored the try, Woodwiss added the extra points. With half backs Godfrey and Balderstone calling the shots Keighley backs were causing havoc. Balderstone scored his second try when he was quickly up in support when Atkin took a quickly taken tap penalty.

Balderstone's illusive running was too much for Skipton. Woodwiss failed with the kick as the ball fell over just as he about to strike it.

The final score came from a standard three-quarter move with the ball being moved out quickly to the left wing where Chris Watts pace took him in for Keighley's eleventh try. Woodwiss kick the goal.

The blend of experience and the young players is serving Keighley 2nd team well, and this was their sixteenth win out of twenty two games with a scoring tally of six hundred and fifty points.
