A top television art celebrity is seeking victims who are willing to provide their bald heads as live canvasses for his latest off-the-wall challenge. Keigh-ley-born Granville Danny Clarke will be performing at one of the centrepieces of Haworth's Fairtrade Fort-night next Friday, which is Red Nose Day. The theme of Red Nose Day this year is The Big Hair Do. And because Comic Relief is also supporting fair trade, Danny is looking to combine the two events.
Danny, who is famous for his appearances on Channel 4's Water-colour Challenge, will be looking for volunteers to supply their bald or shaven heads for a panoramic painting performed during the interval of his two-hour show. He said: "It would be great to show me painting a landscape on someone's head on television as part of the fundraising festivities.
"It would be a perfect opportunity to combine it with somebody who has had their head shaved during the day."
Danny is no stranger to bizarre ventures - he is the only person to have painted around the world in 90 days, he created a first at Knaresborough Arts Festival with Visually Vivaldi by painting in harmony with an orchestra, and last December he taught 100 non-artists how to paint snow scenes in just one hour.
He added: "It's strange how I keep linking with Haworth and the area. My first three paintings were displayed on Haworth Main Street in 1977 at a small art shop for £15 each."
His show includes dynamic watercolour demonstrations interspersed with Danny's own poetry and music. It starts at 7.45pm at the West Lane Baptist Church. Rita Verity, from Haworth Fair trade Village Steering Committee, expected the show to be a popular success.
She said: "Danny walked into our shop - I hadn't seen him for 13 years since our paths crossed at Yorkshire TV - and he was only too pleased to get involved."
Anyone who wants to feel the bristles of Danny's paintbrush should contact Sonia's Smile on 647776.
Fairtrade Fortnight has been running since Monday and will continue until March 16. A plethora of entertainment has been planned for tomorrow, including an event called Hand in Hand which features songs, jokes and poems as well as the Silsden Singers, refreshments and a raffle. The event is being held at the West Lane Baptist Church from 7pm and entry is £2.
A free didgeridoo workshop is being held in the Hall Green Baptist Church tomorrow (Saturday March 8) from 2-4pm. From 1-4pm in the same place mosaic making will also be taking place. A balloon race on Haworth's Main Street and children's art workshops as well as face painting will also be taking place.
Among other events planned the Feeling Godd Theatre Company will be presenting The Way We Are at West Lane Baptist Church on Tuesday. Off The Wall, a tribute to Pink Floyd, will be performing on Saturday (March 15) at Haworth Community Centre from 7pm and tickets cost £8.50.
