A creative pupil at Oxenhope Primary School has tapped into a clever idea to win a design competition. Stephenie Heaton's picture of a dripping tap was chosen as the winning entry in a Yorkshire Water competition to design a weather vane.
The 11-year-old from Hawksbridge Lane, Oxenhope, has now had her original ingenious idea turned into reality by Yorkshire Water. And both Stephenie and mum Linda were at the newly refurbished Oxenhope waste water treatment works, off Hebden Road, to see the weather vane being erected. Stephenie, who is in year six, said: "We were told to come up with an idea that included water in some way, and I'm really pleased with the weather vane because it looks like my drawing."
Head teacher Mike Wragg said: "Yorkshire Water contacted us about running a competition and the children put forward lots of good ideas. From there we whittled it down to six designs and Yorkshire Water staff chose a winner on the basis of good design and how easily it could be turned into reality.
"There were three or four runners up who also received goody bags."
