Scouts had their culinary capabilities put to the test on Sunday.

Eight teams from throughout the Keighley district did battle in the annual indoor cooking contest, at the Fell Lane Scout HQ.

They were given two hours to prepare, cook and serve up a three-course meal. Each two-strong team was allowed to spend just £5 on ingredients, and all the cooking had to be done on double gas burners.

Judging was on preparation, organisation, the menu and presentation, as well as the quality of the finished meal. Ian Neale, the assistant district commissioner for Scouts, praised the standards.

He said: "They came up with some very imaginative dishes. We even had squid on one menu! When you consider that out of a maximum of 100 points the lowest score was 69, that gives an idea of the quality."

He carried out the judging, together with district commissioner Mrs Jeanette Young and assistant district commissioner (Beavers) Mark Pullen.

The competition was won by 25th Keighley (Long Lee), and runner up was 23rd Keighley (St Anne's). Both now go forward to a county contest later this month.
