From the 'Down Memory Lane' mystery file - ie photographs awaiting further information or inspiration for a suitable caption - comes this group of unidentified young ladies belonging to Lund Park Methodist Chapel in the earlier 1900s.
They appear to be dressed for some kind of presentation, and may indeed be wearing, or attempting to suggest, period costume.
Surely there must be readers who recognise a grand-mother or great-aunt amongst them.
In 1910 the Keighley Wesleyan Methodist Circuit alone boasted sixteen chapels and preaching-rooms. In addition to the regular clergy, these were served by 43 local preachers. Some 2,867 of their members supported the Band of Hope. A total of 4,337 Sunday School scholars were instructed by 637 teachers. The Primitive Methodists accounted for a further thirteen Keighley places of worship. Lund Park Chapel had been built in 1895. By 1910 it seated 618, and had 63 Sunday School teachers and 366 scholars. It was to close down in 1970
