Embassy 'B' proved too strong for Nelson Nomads in this week's Keighley & District Table Tennis League Division One clash. The home team had Kevin Rowe in fine form with three straight wins that included a 21-11, 21-18 defeat of Dave Ayrton. Ian McLean was the equal of his team mate, with his threesome containing a 21-14, 21-6 bettering of Cath Lawson. Only a 25-27, 21-19, 21-17 Ayrton success against Mathew Mellor spoilt the party for the 9-1 victors.

Lothersdale 'A' did their relegation haunted 'B' team no favours with a 10-0 thrashing that will probably be enough to confirm Division Two fare for their stable mates next season. Keith Wilkinson started with a 21-16, 21-18 defeat of Galley and finished the singles with a 21-9, 21-15 win against Martin Mulligan, playing up from the 'C' team. In between, David Adams registered a confident treble that included a 21-10, 21-11 defeat of Peter Midgley and Tim Boothman also enjoyed a max, along the way sneaking it against Galley 21-8, 12-21, 21-18 in the only game that required a decider.

Nemesis 'A' looked to be in for a tough night when the Ukrainian visitor's Peter Holbrook defeated Steve Taylor 21-19, 21-17 in the first. However, nothing could be further from the truth as Nemesis proceeded to show their worth by wining the remaining rubbers. Holbrook did his best against Jim Lister, just slipping up 21-16, 12-21, 22-20 as did fellow Ukies Jerry Harkaway (21-13, 21-23, 21-16) and Stef Szczur (21-23, 21-10, 21-13) to Lister and Taylor respectively, but John Stones enjoyed the best of matches with his treble including the 21-16, 21-15 defeat of Holbrook.

In Division Two, Lothersdale 'C's 9-1 victory over Oakworth still leaves their opponents requiring to do some work to avoid relegation. Jack Anderson started well with a 21-11, 21-15 defeat of Ben Lowe followed by wins against Jason Proctor 12-21, 21-15, 21-10 and Steve Smith 22-20, 21-13. Richard Crookes weighed in with three of his own for Lothersdale that included a 21-16, 21-11 win against Lowe and only a 21-17, 21-18 win for Lowe against Martin Mulligan prevented a whitewash for the Oaks.

In Division Three, Johnson & Johnson virtually made sure of second spot and with it promotion back to Division Two with a narrow 6-4 victory at promotion rivals Crossflatts 'A'. Once again the ace in the pack for the Gargrave team was John Pullen with yet another treble, however, Danny McHugh acquitted himself well before going down 21-18, 21-15 to the J&J star. The young Crossflatts player then picked up a couple of good wins against Tony Bugeja 21-17, 21-19 and Allan Ripley 21-17, 23-21 as did team mate Ben Hinchcliffe, but a 21-18, 18-21, 21-13 doubles win for Pullen and Ripley against Hinchcliffe and John Patrick made sure of the win for the visitors.

St Wilf's 'A's Will Lister made Haworth 'B' work hard for their 7-3 home victory with defeats of Tom Hagyard 21-15, 17-21, 24-22 and David Ogden 21-18, 21-18 before the Keighley Championship's handicap winner teamed up with Alex Brough to snatch the doubles in dramatic fashion 19-21, 21-19, 21-19 from Ogden and Ronnie Farrar. Unfortunately Brough and fellow team mate Mary Lister couldn't quite raise their game to such levels as they saw Will almost score a full house, just losing out to the undefeated Farrar 10-21, 21-18, 23-21.

In the Yorkshire Junior League, the Keighley team of Katie Lightowler, Richard Foster and Adam Broadbent secured the championship for the first time with 6-3 wins over both Wakefield and Hull.
