WHEN I arrived at training on Tuesday evening Phil Stephenson was waiting.

"Can we have a word," asked the Big Fella. I wondered what the problem was and took him quietly into the office.

"It's about your comments on my bowling ... I was up with Rammy and Smithy, and far better than Ekis and Kelly," said Phil.

"Well Phil," said I, (thinking quickly) "Chris Hannah was doing the scoring because he didn't play, and he told me the order of merit."I quickly suggested he have it out with his fellow prop.

And there was me thinking front rowers didn't have any feelings.

Phil has demanded a re-match -- I'll keep you informed.

THE demolition of Sheffield and Hunslet by Hull and Bradford Bulls in last weekend's Challenge Cup emphasises just how wide the gulf is getting between clubs at the top end of Super League and the National League.

Surely there is an argument for Rugby League to put more money into the lower divisions so the smaller clubs can try and narrow the gap. I suspect most National League clubs are just trying to survive when ideally they should be putting time, money and effort into developing the game - which in the long term can only have a positive effect at the top end.

FRIDAY'S Fans Forum was quite positive with the response from supporters very constructive.

From our point of view we feel the club is moving in the right direction. There are no debts hanging over us thanks to Neil and Collin's tight business plan.

I explained that our development plan is also coming along very well. The scholarship scheme has been successful and we have youngsters queuing up to get into our Under-18s Academy squad. The future is looking very bright for the first time in several years.

STUART CALVERT must be the unluckiest man on the planet.

After having two operations on his hand he suffered a groin tear. He was on his way back, but has now damaged his knee and is booked into the Yorkshire Clinic.

I'm sure you'll join me in wishing him a speedy recovery -- Chin up Stu!
