MATTY FOSTER is back in full training with the Cougars -- and could make it into the squad for Sunday's game against London Skolars.
Foster, who played with Keighley throughout the glory years of the early 90's, was also an important member of the club's development team for many years. He was a wing man with real pace, and a solid fullback, and came close to getting international honours during Phil Larder's period as Cougar Coach.
He has returned to Cougar Park after coming out of contract with Sheffield Eagles and needs to show that he has regained his hunger for the game.
"I spoke with Matt before Christmas when he was out of contract with Sheffield, but he had some work commitments. he has joined us on a week-to-week basis at the moment and has been put through a conditioning programme by Paul Royston.
"He is shaping up very well and we may give him a run on Sunday.
"At 26 Matt has a lot of rugby left in him. On his day he is a deadly finisher and would give us an extra strike in the three-quarters," Gary Moorby said.
Moorby has also signed Richard Melvill on a 12-month contract following his appearance at Hunslet when he came on as substitute.
"Richard played for me at Halifax three season's ago and has been playing in Australia for the last 12 months. He played with the Grafton Ghosts in the New South Wales League where he won a Grand Final winners medal.
"He is 22 years of age and at 6ft 1ins and 15st 7lb he has mainly played front row in Australia, but he is mobile enough to play in the back row," he said.
The former Blue Sox player is also expected to be in Sunday's line-up.
After a bright start to the season against Doncaster and amateurs Thornhill Trojans, Cougars have suffered four consecutive defeats and desperately need to get their season back on track against the London side. They are new to the professional ranks and have been finding life tough at the new level, but Moorby is determined his side won't take anything for granted.
"They suffered a big defeat against Batley two weeks ago and will be anxious to make amends. they have a big set of forwards and some pacey backs.
"We have almost a full squad to pick from with Ricky Helliwell back and Gareth Hewitt's also in contention after his knee injury seems to have cleared itself.
"I have told our players that we need a big performance, not just for ourselves, but for the supporters. We owe them something to cheer about and we have the opportunity to put on a really good show on Sunday.
"We have had some superb training sessions, but now is the time to put it all together for real.
"I want the lads to put everything we have worked on into Sunday's game and really show what we are capable of.
"It is important not only to win, but to get back some confidence ready for the following week's game against Dewsbury."
