The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Paul Hockney, told Bradford Rotary Club that he had shaken hands with an estimated 50,000 people in his nine months of office. He said the Lord Mayor's job was firstly as a public relations man in the Bradford district. "It is to get about and meet people, and different organisations, and I do not see why the Lord Mayor's job should not be fun too."

Because teachers felt unable to co-operate in arranging children's activities on Coronation Day, it is proposed by Aireborough Coronation Committee that they be abandoned. The committee states that the teachers did not consider sports a practical proposition and that they were dissatisfied with financial provision made for the children.
