City fans will have the chance to cheer on one of their own after footing the bill to sign Ben Muirhead.

The 20-year-old striker, who has joined the Bantams from Manchester United until the end of next season, has been paid for by the Supporters' Trust.

Managing director Shaun Harvey said: "The money they have raised has enabled Nicky Law to look at signing a player permanently rather than on loan.

"We're delighted that the Supporters' Trust's efforts have been able to bring Ben to the club. They can see their money has gone on a real member of the squad."

The Supporters' Trust set out to raise £10,000 to pay for a loan player. With City's injuries easing, they agreed the cash instead should go towards keeping a youngster.

Trust spokesman Lindsay Wilburn said: "It's great we've got somebody to identify with. We can watch him hopefully progress through the reserves and into the first team and feel part of his success.

"All the fans who have chipped in, whether it be for 20p or £5, can see where their money has gone.

"In the past, there have been too many young players not given a chance at City. But now that is starting to change and we're pleased we can do our bit to help."

Law has hailed the progress of teenagers Danny Forrest, Simon Francis and Lewis Emanuel and is keen to introduce more youngsters in the future.
