A teenager has been locked up for four and a half years in a young offenders' institution for his part in the Bradford riots.
Mohammed Sultan threw at least 13 missiles at police in less than an hour during violent disturbances in July 2001. He was arrested 12 months later after his picture was published, Bradford Crown Court heard.
Sultan, 19, of Toller Lane, Bradford, pleaded guilty to a charge of riot.
Mitigating, Sukhbir Bassra said Sultan had learned his lessons and was "extremely sorry." His client had thrown a number of missiles when he became actively involved in the disturbances for 45 minutes.
Sentencing Sultan, Recorder of Bradford Judge Stephen Gullick said he believed Sultan had genuine remorse but felt only a custodial sentence could be justified.
