SIR - I am appalled by the latest scheme being considered by this apology of a council.

It wasn't enough for them to give themselves massive inflation-busting pay rises, sell off all council housing stock, absolve themselves from school management, close essential nursing homes and have us pay for private homeowners' repairs. They now want to sell off all the family silver by bringing in yet another set of parasites to run our public buildings!

I would like to remind Margaret Eaton and her cohorts that inflation is running at 2.7 per cent and the poor private sector of Bradford are the ones who have to find the money to pay for their grandiose schemes.

Already, many of us are sorely troubled at how we are to manage to pay the latest increase in council tax. Where will it all end?

It is time our councillors opened their eyes and saw all the poverty in the city, instead of coming up with ideas which we cannot afford.

Incidentally, now that we are paying all these corporations to run the city, when are we to see redundancies among our councillors? Obviously they have nothing to do and should therefore do the honourable thing and resign.

SIR - I have just read that the Tory-controlled council is selling off the city to the highest bidder by bringing in a business partner to help run its buildings and leisure facilities. This is privatisation by any other word. It must be a clear indictment that they cannot run the city properly or they are looking for one big pay-off.

We all know that private enterprise doesn't do "owt for nowt". Can the Council assure the people of Bradford that this will not mean any increases in cost to them?

As for City Hall, this was built by the people for the people and as such should remain in the hands of the people.

Why has our city been allowed to fall into this state? It's because of mismanagement by the various councils, who rather than look after the city preferred to score political points off each other.

So come on citizens of Bradford, stand up and tell the Council what YOU want and not what they tell you to have.

Remember it's YOUR city. They are elected to run it for YOU, not for their own political ends.

SIR - As the result of a hit-and-run maniac I had to stay in St Luke's Hospital and the BRI.

The doctors, nurses and all concerned at both hospitals were kindness itself. They did everything possible to help.

I would also like to thank the young man who lifted me on to the footpath until the ambulance came, and also neighbours and old friends for their help, too.

Thank you everyone, and that includes the ambulancemen.

SIR - Just when we thought the wise and good people who govern the country had given every possible encouragement to our children to engage in all types of sexual experiment and promiscuity, we learn ("Radical plan to cut teen pregnancies", February 25) that they propose to teach young girls new perversions to stop them getting pregnant.

What a hope. The truth of course is that until we offer as role models married heterosexual couples and teach young people that sex and marriage are for responsible grown-ups, all we shall have will be more disorientated and lost children in an even sicker and more desolate world.

SIR - I am submitting this letter in the hope it may catch the eye of a person who is sending a postal order for £20 each month to a charity, namely The Calderdale Carers Project, Unit 8A Calderdale Business Park, Club Lane, Ovenden, Halifax, HS2 8DB.

This is a new address having been previously based at Hebden Bridge.

If the person could reveal their identity, we could acknowledge their generous act.

The postal orders have been issued at Wrose, Baildon and Shipley hence this inquiry via the Telegraph & Argus.
