A call for positive discrimination in favour of blacks, particularly teachers, was made by Trevor Phillips, National Secretary of the National Union of Students, at a conference on multi-racial education at Bradford College. Mr. Phillips said he had no definite answers to the problem, but added that if the number of black teachers in schools was not increased there would be very severe problems.

New buses bought by Bradford City Transport are higher than the older ones and it has been found that clearance by a railway bridge in Harrogate Road, Eccleshill, is insufficient. The Transport Committee therefore proposed yesterday that one side of the road under the bridge should be lowered by 3in at a cost of £360.
