Biker couple Linda and Steve Newsome, who completed a 3,500-mile trip in their Triumph Bonneville, are planning to arrive in Bradford loaded up with Easter Eggs.

The stunt is aimed at raising funds for single parent charity Gingerbread.

The couple, pictured, will arrive at Centenary Square in Bradford on Sunday, April 13. The ten-mile trip from the AMF Bowl in Keighley will be a doddle compared to the 3,500-mile trip the couple journeyed to the Czech Republic and back last summer.

Joining them at Centenary Square will be more than 100 other bikers, all heading for the first White Rose Motorcycle Club festival in aid of Gingerbread.

Linda and Steve hope the event will become a popular annual fundraising motorcycle festival. Twice a year, at Easter and Christmas, the club holds a run in which members collect toys and Easter eggs for Gingerbread, the support group for single parent families.

"Gingerbread is suffering financially and we thought we'd do something different and try and raise cash for them as well," said Linda, 43, of Buttershaw, Bradford.

"We have planned a bike run from the AMF Bowl in Keighley - starting at 12 noon - and ending in Centenary Square. We expect at least 200 motorcycles.

"There'll be entertainment from three live bands, a DJ, Irish dancers, face painting, a tombola a best bike show, a balloon race and tea and coffee in a tent.

"Our overheads will be in the region of £800 of which we already have sponsorship of around £500, so we would be grateful for some more help.

Linda, an accountant, is planning to go pillion with her husband Steve on a motorcycle trip to Poland this summer.

Steve, 50, a heating and ventilation engineer, said: "We are aiming to turn the Centenary Square event into an annual fundraiser.

"This is the first time we have held such a big event, so we are testing the water this year."

Steve and Linda will be riding a modern Triumph Bonneville, a modern version of the boy racer Bonneville popular in the 1950s to the 1970s.

The White Rose Motorcycle Club meets at The Coniston pub in Idle, Bradford.
