Twelve-year-old swimming star Emily Cryan has gained a £250 training grant from the Sport Aid Foundation.
Menston St Mary's School pupil Emily swims for the City of Leeds Swimming Club. Her gruelling programme involves training six nights a week and one early morning session. Her training involves two hours pool work averaging 5,000 metres per session. Four of her sessions include one hours land work.
In 2002, Emily won two national gold medals in the 11 year-old category for the 200m and 100m breaststroke events setting national records in both events. Over the years Emily has demonstrated tremendous versatility winning gold medals in all strokes in the regional championships.
Emily's outstanding achievements have gained her a place on the Sport England Lottery Fund World Class Potential Programme. As part of this programme Emily attends additional training camps at Loughborough University.
Emily and her sister Fran will both be representing Leeds in the Speedo League final at Sheffield's Pond Forge next month.
