Andy Myers intends to play catch-up for the remainder of City's season.
The current player of the year has plenty of lost time to make up, having been forced to sit out three months following a double hernia operation.
Myers (pictured) returned to action against Crystal Palace last week, which came as just a big shock to the player himself as the Bantams fans.
He said: "I wasn't expecting to be involved for another week or so and thought I'd have to wait until the Sheffield Wednesday reserve game.
"But the gaffer thought I'd looked all right in training and gave me the chance and I didn't want to let anyone down.
"With all the rain, the pitch was horrible and I did wonder at first. But it felt great to get back and help the lads to win."
Myers survived 70 minutes before coming off in between City's two goals. He said: "The legs were struggling to go forwards by that point.
"But that's understandable after 14 weeks without a game. It was just nice to be involved again having spent so much time out of it."
Myers, an unused sub on City's last visit to Pride Park in the Premiership, is convinced the team can maintain their winning form against a Derby side who have won only two in 13.
He added: "Obviously it's not nice when results aren't going for you and we've been there as well this season.
"But we can't worry about how they are feeling. Our aim is to take the positives from the Palace game and go on from there.
"The lads have done really well lately with some draws and good wins against tough teams. With people coming back from injury it shows what a good squad we have.
"It's just a shame when you look back on it that we didn't have more players available earlier in the season.
"We've missed Wardy quite a bit, Danny Cadamarteri and Jamie Lawrence has been in and out. But the youngsters who have come in have done well like Danny Forrest and Simon Francis which is a good sign for the future.
"Derby have got players like Fabrizio Ravanelli but we've got some good ones of our own. Hopefully we can go down there and show that."
