Twenty pupils at a Keighley school combined the fun of Comic Relief with the exertions of 24 hours of sport. Year 11 and sixth form pupils at Oakbank School started their marathon event yesterday and were due to complete their activities this afternoon. Nichol Lawn, 16, said a few pupils had come up with the idea on the spur of the moment. She said: "A couple of weeks ago after a basketball session, I suddenly thought let's have a sports day for Comic Relief. Since then we have just got on a roll with it. "
She said the games ranged from traditional sports such as football, kwik cricket and badminton to tin can, crab football and murder ball. The students were split up into two groups of ten, with each group alternating between a 5-a-side match and a well-earned rest.
The group have already raised about £1,000 but were hopeful they could double that amount. They would like to thank Sport Camps and Driver Hire for their considerable support. Any-one who would like to sponsor them can contact Nichol on 07946 547434.
Joining in the red-nose fun at Oakbank are sports marathon organisers, from left, Bethany Cawood, Tobias Neale, Laura Cawood and Nichol Lawn, all 16.
