Members from as far afield as Chicago turned up for the reunion of a Sixties youth club's committee. The Crotona youth club's committee met for the first time in 25 years at the Dog and Gun, Sutton, on Saturday.
Geoffrey Berry, who was the catalyst behind the reunion, explained it all developed from one chance meeting when he bumped into a member last summer. He said: "I had wanted to get back in touch with these folk for some time. After that first meeting, I bumped into another member.
"I then found a couple more on the friendsreunited website and everything snowballed from there. It has driven me mad since last October, but it was well worth it."
Mr Berry, who still lives in Keighley, said many of the former colleagues had not seen each other since either the 1960s or the last reunion in 1978. He added: "It was absolutely great for everyone to get back in touch with everybody else. It was a really good do."
Most of the members still live in the Keighley area, but there are four who live abroad. Of those, Joan Ross (nee Brewer) travelled from Chicago for the event. Trevor Gunton, who now lives in Spain, was due to come back but was unable to at the last minute. Another two now live in Australia.
Mr Berry added there was even some interest in a full reunion of the youth club. He said: "One of the old committee works in computers. He is going to set up a website and we can see what interest we get. It is a case of 'watch this space'. I am not making any promises."
Despite a last ditch effort to trace two of the members in the Keighley News two weeks ago, he had still not heard from Anne Lancaster and Anne Mitchell.
The club started as a branch of the Ingrow St John's Church, but soon broke off and moved into premises at Ingram Street, taking the Crotona name. When these were demolished, the club moved to a basement in North Street, attracting up to 200 members.
