A GROUP of Farnhill mums, fed up with having nowhere for their children to play, have got together to raise money to update an ageing play area in the village.
The playground in the centre of Farnhill has fallen into disuse, and the equipment is in disrepair.
Parent Penny Ralph said they were concerned that if the equipment did not pass safety checks then it would be removed and they would lose the only facility in the village.
At the moment a lot of the mothers travel to Bradley, Glusburn or Cononley for somewhere nice for their children to play, but say a good facility in the village would be well used.
"We are hoping to encourage the use of the area. People on canal boats often moor here and I'm sure families would use it if there were better facilities here," Mrs Ralph said.
The parents are appealing for businesses to support their campaign to raise around £30,000 for new equipment and safety matting. They would also like to see the playground levelled and a ramp installed.
The committee will be hosting various fundraising events and hope that the work could be completed by next summer.
"It is still very early days," Mrs Ralph said. "We are getting an idea of the cost."
Anyone who could help the committee should contact treasurer Anna Hargreaves on 01535 631820.
