With last week's defeat out of the way Cleckheaton RUFC got back on track with a 26-14 win at Driffield, thanks to the backs in the first half and a rock solid defence in the second.
Cleckheaton started well when the ball was worked out to John Bentley who went in for a try, Alex Green converting on six minutes.
Driffield came back from the restart and just outside Cleck's 22 were awarded a penalty which Mick Black converted. Black then kicked a penalty in front of the posts to make it 7-6 on 30 minutes.
From a lineout the ball went across field to Bentley and Piper in turn passed to Mick Doherty who went in the corner for a Cleckheaton try on 30 minutes.
Cleckheaton were soon back in Driffield's 22, and from a similar move Mick Garrety went in and had an easy conversion to make it 19-6 on half-time.
After conceding an early penalty Cleckheaton were forced to defend and after Craig Rika was sin-binned Driffield crossed the line with a pushover try on 75 minutes. Driffield looked like they were going to steal a draw, but Oliver Ackroyd broke through for a try under the posts in the dying minutes, Green converting, to seal victory.
