Bradford's Silver Blades Ice Rink will stay open for at least another year - but its long-term future is still uncertain. West Yorkshire county councillors yesterday agreed to pay the final £13,000 of a £39,000 grant promised over three years by the former Labour - controlled authority in 1976. Bradford District Council had earlier withdrawn its financial support.

Sunday is Halifax's smallpox danger day. The town's Medical Officer of Health, Dr C. F. G. Roe, explained: "If anyone in the town has contracted smallpox the symptoms will show on Sunday - the end of the incubation period." Today comes the news that a "don't go home warning" has been issued to the entire nursing staff of 500 at Halifax General Hospital.
