Andy Gray aims to show Scotland boss Berti Vogts what he is missing.

City's top scorer was not in the 18-man squad for the Euro 2004 qualifiers coming up against Iceland and Lithuania.

Gray's omission came as a shock, especially after his scoring debut for Scotland's Future squad in Turkey.

But Vogts may add more players to his plans before they meet up on Monday. And Gray knows a strong display against Reading could still get him the nod.

"The coach is quoted as saying he will probably include some players from the Future squad so we'll see what happens over the weekend," said Gray.

"He has named 18 so far and there are only three strikers in the squad unless you count Don Hutchison.

"But I'm not going to let it bother me. As I've done all along, I'm just concentrating on doing the job for Bradford and if I get picked for Scotland it will be a huge bonus. But it shows how well the season has gone that I came here as a right winger and now I'm ending it on the brink of representing my country as a striker."

City boss Nicky Law is convinced Gray's chance will come. If not next week, then soon enough if he maintains the form which has made the frontman a big favourite with the fans.

Law said: "It was a real surprise to me that he wasn't included but Andy's not to get too down about it.

"There is still a great opportunity to get into that squad and he just needs to keep doing what he has been all along, which is playing well and scoring goals.

"Berti Vogts might have a change of thought or Andy might notch a hat-trick tomorrow and jog his memory.

"But it's nothing he needs to get worried about and his international recognition will come again."

Gray's penalty against Sheffield Wednesday took his City tally to 13. It was also his first at home since netting twice past Stoke on Boxing Day.

Gray added: "I was thinking about that afterwards but I missed the Ipswich game through suspension and we weren't home at all in January.

"But I'm happy with the way things have gone and we're playing quite well at the moment. The first half on Tuesday was as good as we've been all season, particularly for 25 minutes or so.

"Ashley Ward and I really started to click together and it's a pity we're going to have to do without him for a while. But Danny Forrest has been knocking on the door and has taken his chance when he has come in."

Gray drew a blank in front of the watching Vogts against Leicester last month. But he could earn a late call into the German's plans tomorrow against another of the promotion pack.

"Reading have had a fantastic season and are going to be very tough to beat," he said. "But as we've proved on plenty of occasions we are a match for anybody on our day. If we can repeat the fast start we made against Wednesday and keep it going then we can get the right result."
