Nicky Law may be forced into adopting a new formation tomorrow because his left backs are all injured.
City could line up with three defenders and five in midfield to cover the loss of Lewis Emanuel (hamstring), pictured, Wayne Jacobs (thigh) and Andy Myers (calf).
Myers and Jacobs have a chance of being fit to face Burnley on Tuesday. But it leaves centre-half Mark Bower, who took over the role in the closing stages against Sheffield Wednesday, as the only possible candidate tomorrow.
Law said: "I think Mark could do a job in that position but he doesn't see himself as a left back.
"I tried to put Claus Jorgensen there on Tuesday but he didn't fit in. So we ended up with Mark there which was a shame because he was dominant in the centre. He was great in the air and very tidy.
"It leaves us a bit unstuck and we may have to change the formation to fit a team around what we've got."
Law knows his side will be in for a battle against a team he has a lot of respect for.
"I watched Reading at Wolves the other week and they were excellent. They are nice and steady at the back and up front, Nicky Forster is one of the best.
"He was up against four very good defenders and I don't think any of them had more than a couple of seconds on the ball.
"The chairman has put his money in, they've got a fantastic stadium and it's all geared up for success. They've also invested in some good young players which is again a great shout for the academy system."
