Former Guides from half a century ago have been reunited.

The gathering was sparked by a Keighley News story in April last year. We carried a photo of Guides from the 5th Keighley (Temple Street) company taking part in a Coronation Rally in 1953.

The picture was loaned to us by Mary Smith (nee Spencer), who was among those at the event. She was keen to hear from her old colleagues. Mrs Smith, who now lives in Salisbury, said this week: "Following publication of the article several of my old friends contacted me, and earlier this month we had a reunion at the home of our former captain Jean Brown.

"It was a wet and stormy night but about 25 people turned up - six of them from the 'older generation'. We had a splendid time sorting out identities, talking over old times, laughing over the faded photos and sharing in a buffet supper. It was over too soon, with too much unsaid." It is hoped to stage another reunion next year.

Pictured is a quintet from the 1953 group, from left, by maiden name, Pamela Mooring, Gill Petty, Gladys Kingham, Doreen Mooring and Marjorie Punt.
