A former Keighley woman who can recall some of the most historic moments of the last century - including the sinking of the Titanic and the General Strike - celebrates her 100th birthday on Monday .
Mrs Iris Atkinson (nee Pitchford) was born at Otley but moved to Keighley in early childhood.
She left school at 13 to work at Keighley Town Hall, carrying out clerical duties, and she stayed there until her marriage in the early 1930s.
She and husband Joe lived at Braithwaite for nearly 40 years, before moving to the Shann Lane area of Keighley.
When Joe retired from his job at Keighley Lifts, the couple moved to Ilkley. Iris was active in a local choir and enjoyed walking and old-time dancing, and Joe was a keen table tennis player. He died when he was 82.
Iris is now resident at a care home in Chapel Allerton, Leeds.
Her daughter Beryl said: "She is quite active and healthy, and has a fantastic memory for things that have happened over the years.
"She has spent most of her life in Keighley, and I am sure that many people will remember her.
"She has had many proud moments, including last year when her grand-daughter in South Wales was invited to Buckingham Palace to be presented to the Queen for services to the teaching profession."
Iris has daughter Beryl, a son John, grand-daughter Corrine and three great grandchildren.
