Riddlesden's St Mary's Primary School raised a whacking £1,000-plus with a Comic Relief extravaganza. Uniforms were ditched for the day in favour of anything red, there was a sale of red nose buns donated by staff and parents, a penny trail was set up in the hall and noses were painted red. Throughout the week children in years three to six had organised their own class events, including egg throwing, a three-legged race, joke telling and a pea shooting competition. Joke books, containing material contributed by the pupils, were sold. Non-fundraising Red Nose Day activities included a "silliest hair do" contest and pupils had to guess the characters portrayed by staff in fancy dress. Staff and pupils are seen dressed up for Comic Relief. From left are: Jean Scott (Noddy), Muriel Clark (Old Woman who Lived in a Shoe), Clare Warke (Snow White), Lesley Whiteley (White Rabbit) and Nicole Smith (Little Bo Peep). Front: Helen Briggs (Sylvester the Cat) and pupils Bailey Metcalfe, Aiden Whatmuff, Tanisha Badman and Grace Hopkinson.
