WARRANT officer Bernard Lively has been awarded the Lord Lieutenant's certificate for outstanding service to the combined cadet force at Giggleswick School.

Mr Lively, 60, joined the school 14 years ago after serving in the Queen's Regiment for 30 years. He was awarded the British Empire Medal for his army service.

At Giggleswick, he performed the administration and quartermaster duties.

His citation, however, states that he did so much more to help the school's young cadets, creating the highest military standards and giving dedication and effort far beyond the call of duty.

His certificate ranks immediately below the MBE, and he is the first member of a combined cadet force to receive the accolade.

Mr Lively recently retired from the school, and he and his wife travelled from their new home in Suffolk for the presentation ceremony in York.
