Claus Jorgensen hunts Football League history for City today, still not knowing if he will be at the club next season.

The Dane will equal Dixie Dean's 76-year record of scoring in nine straight away league games if he nets at Gillingham this afternoon.

But his future with the club where he has become a huge favourite of the fans remains shrouded in mystery.

Boss Nicky Law has already admitted he thinks it is unlikely Jorgensen can be kept under the new £85,000 wage cap.

But the midfielder, who hit his 11th goal of the season in Saturday's 2-1 win over Watford, remains in the dark about his future.

Jorgensen said: "A lot of players are out of contract and they are starting to make offers to some of them but I haven't really heard anything.

"The club have not come to me yet. The ball is in their court because they've know for a long time when my contract is up so I'll just wait to see what happens.

"I'm just trying to keep my head down, play my football and not think about it. If it comes, it comes.

"Of course it shouldn't be doing me any harm scoring goals because it hits the headlines."

Jorgensen is not putting himself under extra pressure today to continue an amazing scoring run that began at Wolves on December 28.

"I'm happy to be in with a shout but I'm pleased with what I've got already so if I don't get a goal I won't be devastated.

"I probably had more chances against Watford than I've had in the last two games and managed to stick one away. But maybe Gillingham will turn out differently."

Michael Standing strained his thigh in the pre-match warm-up and is a doubt for the clash at the Priestfield Stadium. Peter Atherton played through flu symptoms on Saturday but should be all right to continue.
