Nicky Law today blasted City's let-down at Gillingham.

The Bantams went down 1-0 at the Priestfield Stadium but boss Law reckons they got off lightly.

He said: "It was a case of after the Lord Mayor's show following the win against Watford. There are a few players who've let themselves down with their performance and let down the supporters who travelled a long way.

"We just couldn't get going and there were a lot of minds out there thinking about the end of the season. The 1-0 scoreline has flattered us.

"We lost the game in the first half when we didn't compete well enough and we never got out of second gear.

"Gillingham had a disappointing result at Burnley on Saturday and put it right. We've had the reverse and couldn't mirror our good result at the weekend.

"The pitch was appalling but it's the same for both sides and that's not an excuse. We've come a long way to play and just not performed."

Claus Jorgensen was cursing the woodwork after his one attempt to equal Dixie Dean's nine-game away goal run crashed off a post midway through the second half.

Law added: "It was that sort of game and I feel sorry for Claus. He made some great forward runs but we just couldn't deliver the ball, we couldn't get the ball wide or into the box.

"I felt the only way he would have got one would have been from a penalty but even then I wouldn't have fancied him. He'd have probably sunk on that pitch before he hit it."

City forced only one save from Gillingham keeper Jason Brown and Law was unhappy with the display of strikers Andy Gray and Laurens Ten Heuvel.

The Dutchman was hauled off just after the hour for Danny Forrest but Law said: "It could have been either of them that I took off.

"The real difference between the two sides were the front pairs. Gillingham's worked as a partnership but we didn't do that and always took the easy way out."
