A Keighley girl has fulfilled a life-long ambition to join the Navy.

Samantha Frobisher, 18, trained at HMS Raleigh in Plymouth for two months, before being the only female to pass out.

Her mother Helen Carter says that she, Samantha's step father, two sisters and grandparents attended her passing in parade.

She said: "We were really proud of Samantha. She has wanted to join the Navy for a long time - it's been her dream. She was in the Sea Cadets for about five years.

"She will now go on to work with radio, radar and sonar equipment and has still got some training left to do. She'll spend another three weeks as a Raleigh seaman and then go to Portsmouth for 12 weeks more."

Samantha was one of just 12 who passed in out of the 24 who originally started the training.
