Motorists have been advised that they can park on a Keighley town centre road despite conflicting road markings.

After resurfacing work on North Street was completed the road was re-painted.

But on a stretch of the road in front of HSBC bank, double yellow lines were mistakenly painted through short-term parking bays.

Now drivers have been left confused as to whether they can still park in the bay.

Bradford Council has said that in line with new national guidelines, single yellow lines should have been painted to replace dashed lines in parking bays.

A Bradford Council highways spokesman said: "The road has been recently resurfaced and it looks like the extra markings were put down in error.

"We point out that the lines were designed to comply with the parking signs. Drivers can still park in these spaces for short periods of time, subject to the restrictions indicated on the sign plates."

Double yellow lines indicate parking is restricted at all times, while single lines apply only at times indicated.
