A little young to be supermodels perhaps, but scores of youngsters took to the catwalk to show off their style in Bradford.

They posed with smiles in front of hundreds of people in the city's Kirkgate Centre yesterday, each one showing they have what it takes to be the next Naomi Campbell.

Some 345 responded to an invitation to take part in the Telegraph & Argus Model Search competition.

Among them were people spotted at a special scouting day who were invited to take part in the heats.

Yesterday's young hopefuls, from four years of age up to adult models, were competing for a place in the finals to be held in the Centre on Monday, May 5.

There are four categories: ages four to six; seven to ten; 11 to 15; and adults.

Competitors chosen yesterday will go forward to the finals from where two winners, a male and a female, will be chosen from each section.

Michael Knowles, who hosted the show, said: "It is brilliant. We've had such a good response and all the children have been absolutely brilliant.

"There must be lots of proud mums and dads out there because the children have shown such great enthusiasm."

One proud father was Bradford boxer Bobby Vanzie, the national lightweight champion, whose daughters Kenya, four, and Lakeisha, six, were chosen for the finals.

"I tried to tell them that it's the taking part that counts, hoping they wouldn't be disappointed if they didn't get through, but luckily they did," he said.

"It's been a great day - the girls have really enjoyed it," he said.

Category winners will get the chance to be 'scouted' by the Sandra Reynolds Model Agency, which has been established for 22 years and has offices in Norwich and London. A male or female from each age group will win a test shoot.

Each child who wins will get £50 of Kirkgate Centre vouchers and the adult winners will get £100 vouchers.

The first T&A Model Search contest, last year, was a huge success, with the Kirkgate Centre transformed into a Milan-style fashion show.

Hundreds watched the potential models strut their stuff on a specially-constructed catwalk, with professional lighting, sound and a compere.
