Keighley Albion 46 Brighouse 20 - An injury-hit Albion side drafted in several second teamers - and a few veterans - to face Brighouse and in the early stages they fell behind to two penalties but Simon Marsden replied by going over in the corner.

The score spurred the boys on to take command of the game. Good work from James Feather set up Ian Spencer to barge over in the corner, with Brookes kicking from the touchline.

Some ill discipline saw Richard Blackburn and Andy Parker sent to the sinbin and Brighouse capitalised with a try to level the scores.

Albion played some surberb rugby up to half time with good work from Craig Livock sending Steve Cullen over, with Brookes converting. Brookes followed with a penalty to stretch the led further.

Glen Palmer came on as a substitute and with his first touch of the ball kicked to the corner enabling Rob Bailey to gather and score. Again Brookes converted, taking the score at half time to 24 -10.

Albion's domination continued early in the second half with James Feather going over for an early try. Steve Wrench, by far the best man on the field, scored under the posts following some great handling, Brookes successfully kicking both goals.

Albion suffered a lapse of concentration and Brighouse clawed back two tries in the space of 10 mins to take the score to 36-20.

Albion came back and finished the game in style with a superb break from Wayne Smith which sent Rob Bailey flying in for a try. Then slick work from Simon Kelk and Chris Atkins sent Rob Bailey in again for his hat-trick.

Man of the match was Steve Wrench, but overall a good performance from the whole team kept the pressure on Westgate at the top of the table.

With several key players due to be back after Easter it should be a very exciting end to the season.

Albion are in for another big game tomorrow (Saturday) when they travel to fifth placed Halifax Irish.

Odsal Sedburgh 52

Silsden Park Rangers 0

An under strength Silsden side travelled to Odsal Sedburgh and despite a big hearted performance, they were no match for the table topping side.

The match started off well for Silsden who were awarded a penalty in the opening minutes. Unfortunately though Silsden were not able to capitalise, as the normally trusty boots of Andy Bowness seemed to have deserted him. Odsal took control of the game from the restart and five minutes into the game they opened up what was to become a flood of tries, scoring under the posts.

Silsden kept plugging away with powering drives from forwards Martyn Fryers, Rick Greenwood, Eddie Billing and Paul Fryers but were unable to find the elusive chink in the Odsal defence. The home side scored another two tries in the first half and a penalty took the score to 18-0 at the break.

Only big tackling stints from John Williams, Billing, centres Neil Jordan and Mark Adams and top tackler Jon Gwilliam kept Odsal from adding more points.

The second half didn't improve Silsden's fortunes as the big Odsal side had the advantage of the slope and were able to score at will.

There was one move that nearly saw the Cobbydalers avoiding a whitewash when man of the match Gwillam chased the ball from a restart. As it bounced awkwardly for the defence on the hard ground Gwillam collected and was brought to ground only five yards short of the Odsal line. Odsal were quick to react and ensured the play didn't get any further.

Odsal went on to score a further six tries in the second half finishing at 52-0, which has secured the championship for Odsal.

Silsden's run of tough games continues tomorrow (Saturday) when they travel to Queensbury 'A', kick off at 2.30pm

Keighley Town 22

Clayton 28

Town were put under the cosh in the first five minutes, but bounced back to control much of the first half.

Loose forward Daz Lynham chipped the ball over Clayton's defence with Daz McNulty racing through to collect the ball twenty yards out and, sidestepped past the full back, to score. Winger Billy Mackay added the two points to put Town 6-0 up.

It wasn't long before Town scored again, after another good set of six Lynham lofted the ball into the air only for Clayton's centre to drop the ball. Winger Billy Mackay acted first and scored in the corner.

Clayton hit back to score inthe corner, but Town kept calm under pressure and again on the half hour.

This was Town's best try of the day. Again on the last tackle, a chip kick over Clayton's defence by Lynham, who chased and gathered his own kick juggling the ball as he went, before passing to Dave Lewis.

Lewis passed the ball between two defenders and scrum-half Neil Kennedy added the final touch. Mackay converted to make the score16-4.

But again Clayton came back and scored a converted try right on half time.

The second half saw centre Andy Stokes twist and sidestep his way over for a great try. Mackay again converted to make it 22-10. But the second half did not go to plan and after building up a good lead they let it slip.

Errors started to creep in to Town's game and Clayton capitalised with two converted tries to level the scores. The added a field goal to make it 22-23, and a try out wide and another field goal on 78 minutes saw them claim victory.

Cowling Harlequin 24

Clayton A 24

Shaun Metcalfe opened the scoring for Cowling when he side-stepped a nervous Clayton defence who were still celebrating a Kane Mazurke opening effort.

Tries for Cowling rapidly followed from Austin Parker and Ben Clements. Steve Speight scored for Clayton before the break and one goal each was added by Darren Greenwood for Cowling and Clayton's Carl Bartley to leave Cowling with a slender 14-10 half time lead.

An intense second half started with a penalty awarded to Clayton, successfully kicked by Carl Bartley. This was followed by a typical Jimmy Anson length-of-the-pitch jinking run and a try under the sticks which Greenwood goaled.

Carl Bartley scored and converted for Clayton putting the Bradford side into the lead for the first time. With just two minutes to go a thunderous effort from Cowling man of the match, Austin Parker, regained the lead for Cowling. The try left Darren Greenwood with a goal kick that just went wide.

With Clayton attacking in the final minute the referee penalised Cowling for a high tackle and Clayton equalised with a Carl Bartley penalty right on the final whistle.

Cowling's next and final game of the season is away at St Joseph's on May 3.
