Silsden are through to the final of the West Riding County Cup - and are on course to defend the title they won last year.

The go-ahead club swept to a 4-0 victory over Leeds side Horsforth St Margarets on Friday night and now face a tough final battle with Barnoldswick United on May 2.

"It was not a pretty match, but semi-finals are rarely classics. We just had to slug it out in the first half," said coach Andy Geary.

Jimmy Hedges unleashed a 25-yard shot which sneaked under the keeper to give the Cobbydale side a slender 1-0 half time lead.

In the second period their extra fitness began to take its toll.

Mick Rhodes extended their lead with a shot from outside the area that again wriggled under the Horsforth keeper. The Leeds side had a player sent off after they had a penalty appeal turned down and Silsden made them pay a heavy price.

As Horsforth threw players forward in an attempt to get back into the game Silsden's strike force hit them hard with late goals from Mick Ward and Andy Holden.

They picked up a crucial victory in the league on Wednesday evening to move above Brighouse Town on goal difference.

Jimmy Spencer scored the only goal in their 1-0 victory which sent them to the top of the table with a goal in hand on second placed Brighouse.

Steeton dropped vital points when they could only manage a draw with Dudley Hill Rangers in the league. With Division One championship, and that all important promotion spot, at stake they need every point they can get. The 0-0 draw at Dudley means they must remain on top of their game for the rest of the season.

They still have Hall green breathing down their necks after they clocked up an 8-2 win in midweek and are now just two points behind with two games in hand.

Keighley Shamrocks continued their late run with a 4-1 victory over Eastmoor which lifted them to fourth place in the table. They were 2-0 up at half time thanks to goals from Joe Brady and Paul Driver.

Second half goals from Ryan scott and Adam Dykes made certain of victory.

Silsden Reserves suffered a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Campion with John Chapman scoring their only goal.

Keighley Shamrocks Reserves drew 1-1 with Rawdon Old Boys with Steve Dovenor on target for the Shammies.

Steeton Reserves slipped to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Brighouse Town Reserves.
