Bradford Park Avenue 3, Burscough 2: Bradford Park Avenue finally got their three points from the visit of Burscough at the second attempt last night and have guaranteed themselves at least seventh place in the UniBond Premier Division.

The match was abandoned - ironically with Avenue leading 3-2 - in the 84th minute on March 5 due to a power cut. The Lancashire club insisted the game was replayed.

At the time they were perilously close to the relegation trapdoor but are now comfortably in mid-table and looking forward to an FA Trophy final against Tamworth at Villa Park.

No doubt they will be wondering if, with the gift of hindsight, they should have accepted the result from the initial meeting.

Avenue dominated the first half and turned round 2-1 up but lost their way after the break. "I'm pleased with the result and in some ways the performance because we did well in the first half," said Storton.

Avenue got off to wonderful start by taking a fourth-minute lead through Jason Maxwell.

Then Peter Wright lobbed an equaliser.

Just after the quarter hour Avenue were back in the lead when Andy Hayward netted a high half volley.

Burscough began the second half well and it was no surprise when they levelled - John Norman planting a header past Storer.

But Avenue were not to be denied their first home win against the Linnets and Robbie Painter hooked in the winner from the six-yard box.
