Guiseley 0, Farsley Celtic 1

THIS must have been the most tepid derby atmosphere ever. It was served up before a Bank Holiday crowd of 227 who were expecting something more from Guiseley's last home game of the season.

Any impetus they had disappeared when Richard Chattoe left for hospital just before half-time nursing a deep head wound.

With little at stake except local pride the teams looked jaded at the end of another long season.

The goal that settled the match came from a defensive error by Guiseley which let in Lyle Hillier for an easy tap in early in the second-half.

Guiseley were on top in the first-half and should once again have taken their chances. Andy Shuttleworth brought a diving save at the foot of the post from Jack Robinson and James Nettleton put his header just over from the resulting corner.

The young Farsley 'keeper was then put under pressure from a mis-directed back header but managed to parry the ball away at full stretch as Alan Bailey sought to take advantage.

Bailey was subsequently upended under the combined challenge of the 'keeper and defender but not for the first time during the course of the afternoon referee Phil Bramley waved play on.

Michael Midwood's lob from the touchline then caught John Lamb unawares at it landed on top of the bar and went behind for a goal kick. Dave Henry then returned the favour with a lob onto the top of the Farsley net with Robinson back-pedalling furiously.

Second half chances for Guiseley were few and far between as Alan Bailey went off injured midway through the half and the main attacking impetus was lost.

David Cooke had a chance from a well flighted Mark Stuart free-kick into the area but headed straight at the 'keeper.

Leading scorer Mark Stuart also shot over from a good position. Farsley kept plugging away but were unable to add to their tally and the game petered out into a midfield stalemate.

In a season that has seen Guiseley make it through to the heights of the First Round Proper of the FA Cup, this final home match of the UniBond campaign summed up why the Nethermoor men are in mid-table.

If they are to mount a serious challenge for promotion next season then the platform on which all successful teams build - consistency- will have to be found and at the moment the team has some way to go.

Stocksbridge PS 2, Guiseley 3

Guiseley came back from being 2-0 down to win this re-arranged game at Stocksbridge on Thursday.

The game had been scheduled for earlier in the week but workmen cut through the floodlight cable and the match was postponed.

Stocksbridge took an early lead when Tevendale hit a great looping shot to beat Lamb. Middleton then had to pull off a great tackle to stop Alex Nesovic on the edge of the six yard box.

Lamb made a good save from Illingworth before Tevendale got in a great long range effort from 30 yards.

In the opening minute of the second-half Tevendale rounded Lamb to make it 2-0.

Just a few minutes later Peter Sumner, on as a half-time substitute, got a deflection on his shot which looped over Siddall to make it 2-1. Siddall then had to be at his best to pull off a great save from Sumner's 25 yarder.

Guiseley levelled in the 68th minute after a good run and shot from Dave Henry. Guiseley took the lead after the defence failed to clear allowing Lee Poole to notch on his seasonal debut.

l On Saturday Guiseley play their last game of the season at Leek Town.
