COUNTY AMATEURS

Steeton can finally put the disappointment of last season behind them after clinching promotion this time around.

Last season saw them miss out on promotion to the Premier Division of the West Riding County Amateur Football League when they failed to take a point from their final game at home to Hall Green United.

That allowed Bay Athletic to be promoted on goal difference.

They left it late again this season and required three points from their final two games to ensure promotion.

A 0-0 draw at Dudley Hill Rangers the prior week meant they had to beat Eastmoor to grab one of the two promotion spots.

After a jittery first fifteen minutes, goals from Adam Whiteoak and Steve Barker settled them down.

A second half goal from from James Gill gave them a 3-0 victory and ended a long season of waiting to take their place in the top flight for the first time since joining the league in 1985. Silsden, with three Premier Division games remaining, may find they have to win all three games to lift the Championship Cup.

Saturday sees the visit of third placed Ovenden West Riding to Silsden's Keighley Road ground (2.30pm kick off) before visits to second placed Brighouse Town on May 7 and a final home game on Saturday May 10.

Silsden Reserves beat Brighouse Town Reserves at home by four goals to one.

In doing so, they denied the visitors taking the Reserve Division Winners Cup.

Bradford based Campion Reserves could be crowned champions of that particular competition if they take at least a point from their next game.

That next game sees them come up against Keighley Shamrocks second string when they meet at Manningham Mills on Monday.

Meanwhile, Steeton and Ardlsey Celtic will contest this season's Division One Cup Final.

Steeton beat local rivals Keighley Shamrocks 1-0 at Silsden. Adam Whiteoak scored the only goal after 15 minutes, taking advantage of Shamrocks keeper Paul Lynard mishandling a high cross.

Ardsley Celtic required extra time to beat Heckmondwike Town 5-2 and book their place in the final at Littletown on Tuesday May 13.
