CRAVEN LEAGUE WITH all the championship titles now decided, the only issues remaining in the league are runners-up positions in the Premier Division and Division One and relegation battles in the top flight and Division Two.

In the Premier Division, Crosshills FC made their position safe with midweek victories over Cononley Sports, a game they won 3-1 and a 2-1 win over Bronte Wanderers.

Bronte Wanderers played another hand in deciding the fate of teams though as they defeated Skipton Bulldogs on Saturday to push their opponents to the brink of relegation.

At the top end of the table, Oxenhope Recreation FC completed their programme with a fine 2-0 defeat of Grassington United to end the season with only nine points dropped.

That means they will finish at least six points clear of possible runners-up Keighley Lifts who still have five matches yet to play.

Keighley Lifts enjoyed a 6-1 victory over Skipton Bulldogs to keep up their own charge in hunt of second place.

Daniel Morley weighed in with four goals. David Hannam and Steven Davies grabbed the others.

However, they then did harm to their chances of finishing in second berth as they let a point slip in their 3-2 defeat to Grindleton.

After going two behind and pulling both goals back, they conceded a last-gasp penalty to lose the match 3-2. Steven Davies and Stephen Duff were the scorers on the day.

Lothersdale Athletic, champions in Division One face Bradley this coming Wednesday. Bradley will be looking to take at least a point from the encounter to be assured of the runners-up berth in the division.

Oxenhope Recreation Reserves wound up their programme with a disappointing 5-0 defeat away at Embsay Reserves but like Bronte Wanderers Reserves, they have managed to escape relegation by the skin of their teeth. Wanderers escaped the ignominy of the drop by two points, Embsay, by just one solitary point.

Cowling pulled off the great escape in Division One. Having spent most of the season occupying the bottom rung on the ladder, they won five of their last seven matches to escape the drop. This was despite losing 4-1 at home to Hellifield Sports and drawing at Horton. Those late results saw them catapulted to a mid-table position and shows a possibility for some optimism next season.

In Division Two, Crosshills Reserves had a whopping 7-0 victory over Silsden Athletic FC to finish mid-table and Silsden Athletic wound up their programme with a 3-2 victory over champions Barrowford United. That victory ensures Division Two football for them next season.

Cononley Sports Reserves, already champions of Division Three suffered from a case of After the Lord Mayor's Show as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Bradley Reserves.

Cononley then drew an epic contest with Waddington Reserves with both sides grabbing five goals each in a stunning match. That was Cononley's last action of the season and made sure they finished seven points clear at the top to second placed Bradley Reserves.

Meanwhile, in the first cup final of the season, Cononley Sports Reserves and Pendle Athletic met fought out a 1-1 extra time draw to ensure a replay.

Both sides missed plenty of chances in normal time and it took until the second half of extra time for Pendle to break the deadlock. In the last minute of extra time though, Cononley staged their late, late show to grab an equaliser through Steven Gott to see the two teams meet again.
