A boom in demand for fire surrounds has warmed the hearts of officials of New Plan Furniture Ltd, of Valley Works, Station Road, Bradford. For the demand has forced the company to extend its production capacity and the whole of its works is now concentrating on making wood and stone-effect portable fireplaces for both gas and electric fires, in a whole range of sizes and designs.

Representatives of the Moslem League from Birmingham, Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Wakefield and Halifax attended a meeting in Bradford to mark the fifteenth anniversary of the death of Dr Sir Iqbal, the great Indian poet and the man who introduced the word Pakistan. The meeting was organised by Mr M F Hussain, who is the secretary of the local Moslem League.
