Shipley Station is to get a new £30,000 platform which should mean many passengers will get to their destinations more quickly. The platform, which is expected to be in partial use by October, will cut the time-wasting "about turns "which trains on the Leeds-Keighley-Skipton line have had to do for over 50 years.

At the U.S. Embassy in London today, no explanation could be obtained as to why the Bradford consulate is to be closed down while the other nine consulates in the country are to remain open. The decision, it was stated, was made in Washington. Asked if there was any possibility of a vice-consulate being established to cater for the large amount of business transacted in the West Riding, an official said: "It is not likely".
