A Baildon businesswoman has helped her employers win a prestigious Queen's Award for Enterprise.

Catherine Smith, 60, was rewarded for her contribution to travel agency firm Travel Counsellors, where she works as a travel consultant.

The company won an innovation award for the way it uses state-of-the-art technology to help customers book holidays from their own home, with the Queen's Awards Office saying they would honour every employee who contributed to "the success and innovative delivery of a personalised consultancy service to travel customers."

Catherine, who received a certificate for her effort, said she was thrilled that her dedication had been recognised.

"Because as Travel Counsellors we are responsible for running our own local travel consultancies, I feel very much that this award recognises all our individual achievements as entrepreneurs and travel experts, rather than being just another business award for the boardroom table. I am personally very honoured."
