Debenhams, formerly Busby's, of Manningham Lane, Bradford, closed for the last time today when everything had been sold. The original Busby's store was founded in 1908 in Kirkgate, Bradford, and was taken over by Debenhams in 1958. It continued to trade under the Busby name until 1973, when a national Debenhams policy removed the name of the old-established family firm.

Many residents in the Glen and Belmont area of Baildon protested strongly today at Shipley Council's decision last night to discuss with Baildon Council a proposal to secure a further 50 acres of Baildon land for housing. Some declared they would move elsewhere if the scheme went forward.
