A 28-year-old man has been jailed for 98 days after Bradford Crown Court heard how he used a kitchen knife to write part of his name on a teenage girl's arm.

Majid Khan, who had convictions for drug-dealing and possession of weapons, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm when his case was listed for trial last month.

The 15-year-old, who cannot be identified, was picked up in a car by Khan from the John Street Market in Bradford last May and taken to his flat in Tudor Court, Little Horton, together with another man.

Prosecutor John Topham said the girl stated that Khan had snorted cocaine while in the flat, before going into the kitchen and coming back with a knife.

The girl was chatting to the other man at a table when Khan held her left arm down and started to cut the letters MAJ on her.

Despite her telling him to stop because it was hurting, Khan still inscribed the letters.

Mr Topham said although the cuts bled, the girl did not need any hospital treatment and the letters had now faded.

According to the girl's mother, they do still show on her skin in cold weather.

Khan was arrested but gave a different account of what had happened.

Judge Roger Scott was told that Khan was not a violent man and the offence was committed on the spur of the moment.

He added that the offence would be seen as premeditated because he had gone into the kitchen for the knife and he knew what he was going to do with it.

Judge Scott said Khan's comment at the time indicated he was anti-women and a community punishment order was not the right sentence for such an offence.
