For the first time in Kirklees, some residents will be able to see their local election results live in their own homes on digital television - as soon as each ward count is completed.

Counts will take place for each of the 24 wards at different venues throughout the district tomorrow night.

Kirklees residents who subscribe to ntl cable will be able to see each result live on television as soon as it is announced. This will be first time the local election results have ever been broadcast on INtouch Kirklees.

As soon as each result is available, it will also be announced on the council's website at www.kirklees.gov .uk/elections As in previous years, the results will also be displayed at town halls and publicised by the T&A and radio and television.

There will be 113 candidates contesting 24 Kirklees Council seats. One third of the council's 72 seats - one in each of the 24 wards - are the subject of the elections.

The Labour Party will be defending ten seats, the Liberal Democrats nine seats, the Conservatives four seats, and the Greens, one.

The four main parties (Liberal Democrat, Labour, Conservatives and Green) will each be fielding candidates in all 24 wards. There will be seven British National Party candidates, six Socialist Alliance Against the War (SAAW), one Liberal, one Monster Raving Loony, one UK Independence Party, and one Socialist Alternative.
