More than 40 puppy walkers from across the region took their dogs for a grand outing to Harewood House.

The Big Puppy Day out was held on Tuesday for puppy walkers and their 20 guide dog puppies.

The walkers are volunteers who devote their time to rearing potential guide dogs.

Organiser Jean Endersby said: "The idea of this event is to give puppy walkers, who are scattered around a wide geographical area, a rare opportunity to have a day out together and to give the puppies a chance to mingle with the general public.

"Having all of us out together will also provide us with an excellent opportunity to publicise the role of a puppy walker."

The puppies are placed with the walkers at six weeks old and remain with them until they are a year old, when they are transferred to a special training centre.

The walkers teach the puppies to be socially well behaved, friendly and responsive to the handler.
