A racing punter who won nearly £3,000 after placing a bet in a Shipley bookmakers could miss the chance to turn the winnings into a £210,000 bonanza on Saturday - unless he or she comes forward before 6pm today.

The mystery customer won £2,838 at the Tote bookmakers in Well Croft, Shipley, after putting a £2 bet on the shop's Scoop6 accumulator bet last Saturday.

The bet requires players to pick the winners of six races screened live on terrestrial television.

The punter got all six correct and won the prize and now has the chance to win all or part of a £210,953 bonus prize by picking the winner of just one more nominated race on Saturday.

But the punter will only be entitled to make a selection in the bonus race if they first register last week's win with the Tote before today's 6pm deadline.

Stephen Hodgson, manager of the Tote bookmakers shop in Shipley, said: "If the person doesn't come forward before 6pm he or she will miss out. No-one at the shop knows who it is."

And Tote spokesman Jeremy Scott said: "I wouldn't be surprised if the winner doesn't even realise they have won, as in the fifth leg of the bet last week they made a selection which was in fact a non-runner.

"However, under the rules of the Scoop6 in these circumstances their selection is automatically transferred to the horse which is favourite for that race, in this case Desert Deer which went on to win."

Anyone who holds the ticket should telephone the Scoop6 registration line on 0800 028 4418.
