The mother of a seriously disabled Bradford girl today told how she dreams of putting a smile on the face of her daughter and others like her.
Peta Hudson, whose daughter Chloe suffers from a crippling combination of disabilities, is helping to set up a new charity to enable disabled children to enjoy dream holidays with their families.
And - with the help of a group of volunteers - she first hopes the Buy a Child a Smile group will raise enough cash to enable 13-year-old Chloe to visit Disney World or swim with dolphins.
Such a holiday would be a dream come true for Chloe who cannot crawl, walk, talk, eat or even sit up in a chair.
Without the constant attention of family and friends, she can spend days fast asleep.
Miss Hudson's decision to help set up the group with her partner Roy Subhan and friends Julie Stephenson and Angie Chippendale marks the culmination of 12 amazing months for the Dudley Hill family.
She admitted to being "too embarrassed" to ask for charity money to help support Chloe until Barbara Mann, who runs a dance school in the city, offered to put on a fundraising show last year.
Chloe's plight was then featured in the Telegraph & Argus, after which dozens of readers donated toys, and the Mumtaz Restaurant group gave £500 to buy Chloe new equipment.
Today Miss Hudson, 32, admitted their generosity had left her "highly emotional and speechless".
She said the new toys had transformed Chloe's life and put a permanent smile on her face.
"It knocked me for six and made me realise that there are people who care and children can have the fun things in life no matter how expensive," she said.
"I thought we were so lucky, so why not share this with other families with children like Chloe?
"Families should not have to struggle or be made to feel guilty about asking for help just so their poorly child can feel pleasure."
She said the charity would be specially aimed at children who did not have a 'recognised' disability, which often made it hard for their families to secure funding.
And it would aim to provide the 'fun things' in life such as holidays and toys.
"It is so important to have that memory of all being on holiday together," she said.
"Precious memories and happy times are vital to a family like ours and something as simple as a cold could be fatal because most children like Chloe have little or no immune system."
The group's first event is a table top sale to be held at New Hay Road Methodist Church this Saturday, from 10am until noon. Tables can be hired for £5.
The group is also keen to hear from anyone who could help provide equipment, such as unwanted computers, or provide prizes for a raffle at the fun day.
