The Liberal Democrats held on to the control of Horsforth Town Council.

The party has 12 seats, while there are four Conservative seats and two Independent seats, as well as two Indep-endent Friends of Hall Park seats.

But there were casualties along the way.

One of the biggest was Independent John Iceton who lost out this time to Tory Richard Hardcastle in the Hall Park ward, but another five new faces have joined the town council.

Serena Glover and Kathleen Hardcastle were elected in Broadfields ward, John Dooley got in in Brownberrie ward, Doris Windsor was elected in Victoria ward and Shaun Glover captured a seat in Woodside ward.

Independent town council chairman John Brodwell said that he was delighted to have been re-elected.

He said: "I am sorry that John Iceton has not been returned but the number of independents has been ret-ained.

"My message to the six new councillors would be to put the interests of Horsforth first."

The first meeting of the new council will meet next Wednesday when good citizen's awards will be handed out to deserving members of the community.

The evening will start at 7pm with the handing out of the awards and the meeting will start at 7.30pm at Trinity and All Saints College in Horsforth.
